All day long Jake has been emailing me this:
"SHOWN SHOUNG SHOW SHARE YA, YO LOW LOWLOW" as well as "NO SHOWN SWON YA VAY NAY, NO SHOWN NAY FOWN!"
You see, last night I was watching American Idol upstairs in our bedroom. I am not really a huge fan of American Idol, but it passes the time until the Amazing Race comes on. Jake was in the bathroom shaving his back and face (naturally). From time to time, Jake walked out of the bathroom to check out the various Idols. One of the contestants named Constantine Maroulis starts singing his song. For those of you who don't know Constantine, he is one of the Idol's "rocker dudes," but personally I think he is just a theater geek with leather pants. I think Jake is drawn to Constantine for his potential to sing Pearl Jam songs. Jake strolls out of the bathroom, scantily clad in a towel to catch a glimpse of Constantine, hoping that he will here some good rockin'. Unfortunately, no, there was a Bonnie Raitt serenade instead.
"That guy looks Turkish," he says and saunters back into the bathroom. Hmmmmm, I think. He does.
There is not much Jake action for the rest of the show, until Anthony Federov comes on. After only hearing Anthony Fedorov's name Jake comes out of the bathroom (still in only a towel) singing this:
"SHOWN SHOUNG SHOW SHARE YA, YO LOW LOWLOW! NO SHOWN SWON YA VAY NAY, NO SHOWN NAY FOWN!"
"What the heck are you doing?" I ask.
"It's the Russian National Anthem," he says, "Don't you know it?" he asks me, quite seriously.
He then sings another verse with arms outstretched, bouncing to the beat of the muddled Russian words. He then grabs a yellow swim cap from the top of the TV and puts it on, continuing with the anthem. He does this in such a way that makes me think that for the Russian National Anthem to be sung properly, one must wear a yellow swim cap. I suppose that having no shirt on is optional.
So all day long I have been bombarded with lines from the anthem. See what I live with. Never a dull day.
