A Big Day

Today is Abe's first day at the Babysitter's house. (deep breath) I am doing fine.

Wouldn't you know that today things have not gone smoothly. Well, last night he freaked out Jake by screaming bloody murder for no apparent reason. I get a frantic phone call on my way home from work with a baby screaming in the background.

"Jake, what is going on?"
"I DON'T KNOW! PLEASE COME HOME!"

When I got home Jake is standing in the middle of the kitchen with a seemingly calm half-naked baby (he stripped off all of his clothes in case those were the problem). Jake, on the other hand, looked at me with wide, glassy eyes -- a little frightened.

The rest of the evening was sort of like that. I had a zillion things to get ready for the babysitter, but every time I put the baby down, he would start crying. He was soooooooooo tired, but just would not fall asleep.

Finally, I put him to bed, for what I thought for sure would be the whole night. Nope, he wakes up at 2, 3 and 4:30 a.m. He has not done that for WEEKS!

Then, this morning, I had to wake him up and dress him, which I don't think he liked. He displayed this by puking on his cute outfit.

All of this, and the fact that I have to leave him at a relative stranger's house. I am so scared that he is going to cry all day and she will never want to watch him again. I do find comfort, though, in the fact that I think she knows WAY more than I do about babies, because she has three kids. And, she is a nice lady. With cute kids. (deep breath).

The only consolation today is that I am wearing a pair of pre-pregnancy jeans. Nevermind that the waist is a little tight over my flabby, stretch-marked stomach. They are on and are not too tight. I don't have to tuck in my shirt.

So, everyone say a prayer for Little Abe and Meggan the Babysitter. Let's hope by the end of the day they are best friends.
