Sky Rockets in Flight

I think I have radio ADD. I am not sure if this is an official condition, but it has definitely been confirmed by other people. I do have a CD player in my car, but for some reason, I like to take the thrilling ride of flipping the dial ... you never know what your gonna get. It's like I am in search for the perfect song at the perfect moment, and I am always ready to belt it out.

Yesterday, while flipping through my normal five or so stations, I hit the tail end of "Afternoon Delight." This brought me great satisfaction, but proved to be a tough sing-a-long. However, I did do the obligatory "BOOOOoooooooOOOOOOO" sound effect at the appropriate moment. I also made a mental note to watch "Anchor Man" and learn all the words. After that song, in true random radio fashion I got to hear "Everybody's Workin' For the Weekend." Visions of Chris Farley in an ill-fitted Chip-n-Dales costume, alongside a lioness Patrick Swayze danced in my head.

Next, came a lot of Phil Collins'/Genesis songs. What's the deal with them, anyway? I hear them everyday after work without fail. Do they have some special deal with the FCC or something? That may be worth looking into .... For the record, I do not sing along to Phil Collins. Okay, maybe I like "Billy Don't You Lose My Number," but after the first chorus I get bored with it.

My all time favorite radio song would have to be "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood. Don't ask me why, but it puts me in a good mood everytime I hear it. I think it reminds me of being at the pool in the 80s with a fluorescent bathing suit. I definitely jam out to that one, and strangely enough, I hear it at least once a month.

Sure, sometimes it is hard to find something good on the radio, but that is what makes the good songs so much better. Like when a random Jack Johnson song comes on, or you hear "Ram Jam" out of nowhere. Unlike Jake's Impalla selection which is, "Pearl Jam all the time," I can have a colorful array of hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. (On a sidenote there are only so many times I can hear the words, "I'm going hungry" before I actually DO get hungry.)

I wish all of you the good fortune of hearing "Afternoon Delight" on your way home today ...

"Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way."
-"Afternoon Delight"

To point out a few things:
#1 "Hunger Strike" is Temple of the Dog, not Pearl Jam.
#2 You have like 6 'Soft Rock' stations programed in your car. It's no wonder you hear "Sussudio" 5 times a week.
#3 "In the Air Tonight" is a good song too. And "Invisible Touch". And "Land of Confusion". And "Take a Look At Me Now". But that's IT.
#4 Steve Winwood is AWESOME, and not just VH1 Awesome 80s awesome. I recommend Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die and Mr Fantasy.
#5 Plus who could forget Stevo's "Gimmie Some Lovin" from when he was in Spencer Davis Group???
#6 I think I am way too obessed with crap rock, not that I think those bands fall into 'crap rock' catergory, but I'm not asshamed to belt out some Journey every now and then.
#7 Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it

"Hunger Strike" is sung by Eddie Vedder, which is close enough to Pearl Jam, and apparently makes the cut to be played in Jake's Impalla, which as I said before is "Pearl Jam all the time." I also think Jake has some story about that song and Pearl Jam ... you will have to ask him because I started to tune him out ....
