Month Twenty-four (HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY BUDDY!)

Dear Abe,

Wow. I can’t believe you are two years old. That just blows my mind. You are a running, talking, ball kicking, dancing machine. A real boy, now.

You talk so well now, and we really do have conversations. Well, at least I know you know exactly what I am saying. You are getting a lot better, and you try so hard to spit a sentence out. You know exactly what you want to say in your head, but then your mouth just doesn’t participate when you are spitting it out. Most of the time, we know what you are saying, and when we repeat it back to you, you say, “Yeah,” like, yeah, that’s exactly what I said, idiots.

You are in full swing at school, and this week you are the “Star of the Week.” I had to bring in photos of you, and fill out a little questionnaire. I think everyone thinks we were at the beach all summer, because most of the pictures were from the ocean. It was so much fun filling out your favorite food (fish sticks), favorite movie (Yummy Yummy – an oldie but goodie), and favorite music (rock-DUH). I feel like you are a little bit of a “big man on campus”. Your Daddy says that when you leave, it takes 10 minutes just to get out of there, because everyone says goodbye to you – teachers, bus drivers, kids from the older classes. Plus, you have a girlfriend. Little Maggie. And, she is so cute. Your teacher says that you hug her all day. And, one day you were playing outside and she came over and put her head on your leg, and you said, “Oh, Maggie!”

You still love, love, love Thomas and Friends. We lucked out with that birthday theme. I think you enjoyed your party, and I think you were also thoroughly spoiled. When you were opening presents and spotted something “Thomas” you would start shaking your hands and say, “Ahhhhhhh!” I ask you all the time which one is your favorite, and at first you would say, Yeah. So I don’t think you knew what that word meant. But, now, you get it and you say, “James favorite.” And, you say other things are your favorite, like green blankey instead of blue blankey.

Your eating habits are starting to change a little and you have starting exercising your independence with everything. “Abe no like it,” is what you say to almost everything besides fish sticks. But, I know you are lying, because you do like most of these foods. You are just being a pain in the rear. You also started eating Kopetti (spaghetti- don’t ask), but only if it angel hair noodles.

You are an absolute joy and pleasure (most of the time). When you are happy, you make everyone around you smile. You have such a great laugh, and such a sweet heart. I am honored to be your mother. When you were a little baby I wondered if when you were older I wouldn’t want to kiss you, or hold you as much, but I really, really do. I really cherish the times that you will sit in my lap, and you will let me rock you to sleep. I will do it as long as I can (even when you have facial hair).

Love,
Mama
