Mini 2007

Jake and I survived the Mini-Marathon this weekend. So now, my nightmares can end, and I can focus on something else to worry about. I was running out of things.

We did surprisingly well, and, I am not afraid to say it -- I am proud of myself. It’s not like I ran very fast (I was 36 minutes slower than my best time. But, hey, a baby did live inside of me less than a year ago). And, I honestly thought the following was going to happen:

a) I would die

b) I would fall over in the middle and have to log roll my way to the end

c) I would have to start walking after mile 6, which would have been officially the farthest I had run prior to the mini.

However, none of those things happened and we managed to run the entire thing (minus two bathroom breaks, one of which Jake peed for 6 minutes.) The pace at which we ran it was also about a minute faster than ANY of the training runs I did. I have no idea how I managed that, but my legs are really paying for it today (Two days later). I told Jake right before we got to our starting corrals that my calf muscles have at least seven miles of reserve in them. And, I was right. See, having freakishly muscular calf muscles really do pay off in certain situations.

And, I have to give a shout out to Jake, because I KNOW he could have run faster and I would not have been able to finish without him. I will forgive him for trying to push me out of the way, so he could finish a step ahead. (We ended up with EXACTLY the same times.) I hope our finish line photo reflects the unsportsmanlike conduct.

In all of our back patting, cheeseburgers, and reveling in the moment, I totally forgot about the pain that would follow the next day(s). And, oh yeah, I have a baby. A baby that is crawling at lightning speeds, and a baby that sleeps upstairs. UP. STAIRS. That also means that I have to go downstairs. DOWN. STAIRS. It hurts man. It really hurts.

Anyways, one goal has been accomplished for the year. I can tell you right now that I still read US Weekly. However, I also read Newsweek. Don’t they cancel each other out?
